With all the chocolate
floating around at
Easter, it can be a tricky
time for Vegans.
However, Asda have sought
to take the ease off a bit by
launching a range of vegan
hot cross buns for the
first time. Though the famed
Easter treats are typically made using an enriched dough in-
cluding milk, butter and an egg, these treats omit all of the
above and are therefore free from dairy and egg. They're also
wheat-free too, meaning people with a gluten intolerance or
coeliac disease can also take part in Easter eating activities.
Approved by the vegan society, the list of ingredients instead
includes vegetable oils and rice flour as well as the traditional
currants, raisins, sultanas, orange and lemon peel.
The free from buns are available in selected Asda stores up and
down the country and cost £2. For non-vegans and wheat
eaters, they've also released a new range of Extra Special hot
cross buns with flavours including triple berry and special Bel-
gian chocolate.
Asda is not the only supermarket to cater to other dietary
groups and those with food intolerances and allergies this
Easter. Marks and Spencer have recently launched gluten-free
hot cross buns and Sainsbury's also sell wheat and dairy free
hot cross buns
