Wines to enjoy in Autumn

Summer seems almost to have departed, so I’ve been putting together a selection of suggestions for you to enjoy in the mellow
fruitfulness to come. Once again I’ve mainly chosen some lesser-known wines all of which, by co-incidence are French, but
all of which offer excellent value.

For a sparkler I’ve chosen another wine from DOMAINE LAURENS, CREMANT DE LIMOUX ,
LA ROSE NO. 7, but this time is is pink, which always seems to me to be a bit more sophisticated, and a good way
to impress friends! I’m sure this will give a great deal of pleasure, and is well-worth £10.95 per bottle.

RESERVE SAINT MARC,2014,GRENACHE BLANC,VIGNOBLES FONCALIEU. This a large , and
splendid , co-operative of over 1,000 wine makers, based in the Languedoc- Roussillon region, and is a fruity,
easy-drinking wine, which at £5.95 per bottle cannot fail to charm!

SAINT-VERAN 2015 TERRES SECRETES, is our second white. It is a very traditional style, and ,like all
decent white Burgundy, is 100% chardonnay. Combining aromas of peach and pear, this wine has both
elegance and complexity. Highly recommended at £10.25 per bottle.

DOMAINE ST. FELIX , CUVEE PIERRE MARTIN,2015, VDP D’HERAULT, is this season’s rosé selection.
This is very similar to an a.c. Provence rose, but at a rather more modest price!. It is a pale straw colour, a
refreshing blend of grenache and cinsault, and is temporarily available at a heavily-discounted £5.95 per bottle.

I’ve chosen three red wines, two of which are from the Languedoc appellation but they are also very distinctively
different.

The first is CHATEAU LARZAC 2013, LANGUEDOC, and is from an ancient property, fully modernised in the
early 1600’s! This blend of grenache, syrah ,and mouvedre is aged eighteen months in oak before bottling. It is a
pretty hefty 13.5%, but it is certainly not heftily priced at £6.95 per bottle.

HECHT AND BANNIER 2008 LANGUEDOC is the other wine from the region.H & B are very highly regarded
vignerons (they produce a stunningly good rose!). This is a blend of grenache, syrah and carignan, and at almost
10 years old , is just about at its peak of perfection. A snip at £8.95 per bottle.

I could not resist the temptation to put in an old favourite as the third red! VACQUERAS “LE POETE” DOMAINE FOURMONE
2014. I’m a great fan of red wines from the Southern Rhone, and this property, owned by the Combe family for five generations, is
one of the finest in the region. Like the most attractive wines of the area, this is primarily grenache, with some syrah . At 14% it is a
powerful, but elegant, wine with aromas of black cherry and berry fruits. It is a marvellous accompaniment for grilled or roasted
meats, or strong cheeses. So make sure you try it- at £12.95 per bottle this really is something special!!
