Focus Spring 2017

Big changes are underway at local company Nethergate Brewery. Currently the Brewery operates
from a site in Pentlow but all that will change when the brewery moves to its new site at Rodbridge
just outside Long Melford.
The Brewery recently announced the purchase of the Rodbridge site, which
has been the home to a car sales company for many years, and has already
begun works to convert the existing building into a new brewery, visitor centre
and shop with a tap room. The new brewery will allow different styles of beer
to be brewed, as well as the favourites already in the range, which includes
Suffolk County and Old Growler.
Externally there have been few changes so far, but builders are removing
internal walls and doing a lot of preparation work on the inside of the new
building for the building works on the new brewery.
The next step will be new signage for the brewery logo underneath the apex
of the existing wood faced building and the removal of the existing signs.
A new Silo will be added to the rear of the building to allow Malt to be stored on site,
and a cold store and warehouse in the same style as the current building will sit to the rear of the site, enabling Real Ale to be
correctly stored and conditioned. The new brewery will be open for tours and events also, and the staff hope that local people will
take full advantage of the opportunity to become “members” of the brewery and to engage with the brewers on some of the
products! The new tap room will be used to showcase the companies’ beers and for people to experience true brewery fresh beer
on the premises, as well as to offer take-outs in a number of different formats.
The company branding will also be updated over the coming months, with a refreshed look and feel on the bar, in the company’s
glassware, and online purchase functionality through a new website.”The new Shop and visitor centre is expected to be open for
Easter, with the brewery to be fully operational toward the end of Summer 2017. Rob Crawford, general manager of the brewery
said”: “We are completely happy that our new equipment can produce our existing beer range perfectly, but we will also be
developing new beers to reflect consumer trend changes within the industry”. The Brewery site will feature increased closed top
fermenting capacity, and will significantly add to the brewing capabilities of the company, which has historically specialised in dark
beer and ales. A new flagship beer will be launched alongside the new plant, which will be christened through a brew naming
competition with local people.“We aim to provide great traditional beers with a modern twist, and to develop ales which provide
huge drinking satisfaction to our consumers across our free trade, with our national partners, as well as within our own shareholder
pub estate,” said Richard Gray, director of sales.
