With the arrival of Summer my thoughts inevitably conjure up visions of warm evenings in the garden sipping a fine southern
French rosé. For me, this area produces the most enjoyable and approachable, rosé wines, which are a world away from the
Mateus and Anjou wines which were prevalent in my youth, and which are remembered, with a shudder, by a lot of people.
Do try the wines I suggest - I can not think they will disappoint. Half of the wines quoted are excellent rosés - why not try all three?
Also included in the list is a white, a red and my favourite Prosecco. Don’t forget all these wines can be bought at a discount for
Focus readers from Nethergate Wines. Tel: : 01284 852110
Round Stone Bay Sauvignon Blanc, Nelson
New Zealand sauvignon blancs are all the rage at the moment. Fresh and intensely flavoured, this is rather
more elegant than most of the offerings from this region - £8.05 per bottle.
Prosecco frizzante ‘Spagorosso’ Domenico di Bertiol N/V
Very traditional in style, and still using an exposed cork held down by a string (the classic Prosecco closure),
this brings delicate lemon tinged flavours and a lively long taste. - I do not know of a Prosecco that I like
more than this - £8.40 per bottle.
La Balade de Coline, Vaucluse 2014
A very delicately pink wine from the Principarte d’Orange, light in colour and body, but with a certain
elegance - a snip at £5.70 per bottle.
Côtes du Rhône , Prieuré St Julien, 2015
This is a full bodied wine with tons of fruit, balanced by a citrus texture and enough minerality to bestow
a certain dryness on the wine - £7.00 per bottle.
Côtes de Provence , Hecht and Bannier , 2014
This appellation produces wines of immense charm with a complex mixture of herbs and flowers.
Quite superb £9.70 per bottle (also available in magnums at £30.50)
Regnié ‘les Rampaux’, Dominique et Rémy Passot 2012
A red wine that suits warm weather! Beaujolais is truly a fun wine, but very full-bodied with red-currant and
raspberry flavours. Perfect for picnics and barbeques - £8.80 per bottle
