Held on the fourth Sunday of every
month in Lavenham Village Hall,
Lavenham Farmers Market boasts
over 30 of the highest quality artisan
producers in Suffolk. and is well worth a monthly visit. It really
is a genuine, local market - everything that is sold at the mar-
ket comes from within a 30 mile radius with traders travelling
from Hadleigh, Sudbury, Woodbridge and Boxford.

There is a fantastic range of produce including fresh fruit, and
vegetables, local bread, beef, pork and game, home baked
cakes and pies, local eggs, home produced jams, pates and
chutneys, fresh herbs, local sausages, smoked cheese, salami
and olives, real ale and a lovely selection of plants and
flowers. All the food at the market is grown, baked, brewed
and butchered by the person who is selling it so that you, the
customer can find out everything you want to know before
you buy - there are no hidden surprises.

The fantastic kid friendly Farmers' Cafe serves
homemade soup, freshly baked quiche and
cakes, Farmers' Breakfasts and good quality
coffee using local products direct from the
market traders.

Spring 2016

Prime Minister David Cameron sampled the best of
West Suffolk’s food and farming at a fair in Parliament
earlier this year.

The event, organised by Bury MP Jo Churchill and West Suffolk
MP Matthew Hancock, attracted more than 300 people and
featured a range of exhibitors. The event held in  Westminster
Hall, was designed to bring together local producers, business-
es and leaders as well as industry representatives, to promote
the interests of Suffolk produce and boost local industries

Members of Parliament and other distinguished guests
attended the event and sampled the very best of Suffolk food
and drink. Mr Cameron; Liz Truss, secretary of state for
environment, food and rural affairs and High Sheriff of Suffolk
William Kendall were also in attendance.

Produce on display included Suffolk Farmhouse Cheeses, Dia-
per Poultry, Kenton Hall Farm, Greene King, Dalehead Foods,
Walsh Mushrooms, Alder Carr Farm and The Friendly Loaf.

Mrs Churchill said: “We often don’t realise it but some of the
finest and most sustainable foods are sourced from Suffolk,
for instance Kenton Hall produce Longhorn beef for the likes
of Heston Blumenthal.  “This event was an excellent occasion
for our exhibitors, whether a local or global business, to meet
and discuss with industry experts and decision-makers about
their produce, their environmental impact and how farming
and food and drink production can be driven forward.”

Mr Hancock said: “It was great to see different businesses of
various sizes from Suffolk using this opportunity to network
and talk to a huge range of people including the Prime
Minister about their business.”

Visit Suffolk used the event to launch their new website.  Ms
Truss added that the food and farming industry supports more
than 300,000 jobs in the East of England and they want ‘to
make the industry a world leader, turbo-charged by the kind
of talent, skills and innovation evident in West Suffolk’.
