If you are a Hobbit fan then good news for you. West
Suffolk is set to be the home of the UK’s first replica,
habitable “Hobbit Hole”.
West Stow Pods, based near Bury St Edmunds, have been grant-
ed planning permission for the development at their camping
site. The owners, husband and wife Ed Lengyel and Jan, offer
en-suite ‘megapods’ with BBQ for holidays in the forest.
“This is an exciting opportunity to enhance our existing megapod
retreats and create an enchanting Hobbit Hole, built into a
grassy mound in the woodland glade here at West Stow. We
intend to recapture the magic of Tolkien for visitors to enjoy,”
said Mrs Lengyel.
The holiday Hobbit Hole will accommodate four to five people
and work is hoped to start later this year under the close super-
vision of Tolkien Society member Alan Baxter to ensure authen-
ticity. To find out more go to:

Art company, Denny Bros, have installed a 100 kilowatt solar
panel array at their premises in Bury. Last year, it installed 200
solar panels which created 50kw of energy. The new array
became operational at the end of June and can now generate
enough electricity to power 21 homes.
The firm has worked closely with St Edmundsbury Borough
Council to develop a ‘West Suffolk Solar for Business’ agreement
and the latest installation will be the first under the new scheme.
Under the deal, the first of its kind in West Suffolk, the firm
leases its roof in return for cheap electricity generated by coun-
cil-installed and maintained solar panels. Quality manager Julian
Colman said the firm would benefit from lower electricity bills
while the council would generate an income from the Govern-
ment’s clean energy subsidy, the feed-in tariff.
