In recent times the wind generator in Clare has angered the
community, with one common opinion being that its visual
impact impairs the beauty of Clare's landscape.

Clare Conservative County Councillor Mary Evans argues that a
far more effective means of producing energy locally is Broxted
Solar Farm in Hundon, which was bought by the high street
banking giant Santander in September 2013. Broxted Solar Farm
works with Suffolk Wildlife Trust, who carry out an ongoing study
based on the impact on birds caused by its use in the surrounding
environment. Comparing Broxted Solar Farm with Clare wind
farm, Mary stressed that the Broxted farm creates a hugely
positive effect on the environment.
As well as providing power for 8,000 homes a year, according to
Mary Evans who lives in nearby Stradishall, it also acts as a "10
acre bird table for wild birds."

Giant Offshore Wind Farm planned

Whether you are a supporter of wind power or not there is no
doubt that it it here to stay and the number of new sites is
continuing to increase.
The increase is not restricted to on-shore but off-shore as well
and very recently a contract was awarded to erect around 100
wind turbines in the southern North Sea off the East Anglian
coast. The overall investment will be in the region of £2 billion,
and the project could meet the annual electricity demands of
around 500,000 homes.

Keith Anderson, CEO of ScottishPower Renewables, said: “We
are delighted to have secured a contract to take East Anglia ONE
forward, which will be one the best value offshore windfarms
ever developed anywhere in the world. With East Anglia ONE, we
are driving the industry towards its cost reduction targets and
demonstrating the long term sustainability of offshore wind.
