The Magna Carta Walk: Saturday 25 April 2015
A key legacy of Clare Magna Carta Festival will be the newly
signposted walk between Clare and Castle Hedingham, link-
ing the castles of the barons Richard and Gilbert de Clare,
Earls of Hertford and Gloucester, and Robert de Vere, Earl of
Oxford. The 8.5 mile walk will have commemorative sign-
posting representing the towns and Magna Carta, and there
will be a printed map and brochure indicating principal sites
along the walk.
The inaugural walk takes place on 25th April, 9:30 start.
The reverse walk takes place on 14th June

June 2015 marks the 800th Anniversary of Magna Carta. The town of Clare in Suffolk has a
special place in the anniversary because two Lords of Clare, Richard de Clare (Earl of Hertford) and
his son Gilbert de Clare (Earl of Hertford and Gloucester) were designated to ensure King John abided by Magna
Carta. The Magna Carta in Clare Festival Committee aims to inform and delight the people of Clare and its visitors.
Clare has a great history of coming together as a community and 2015 will be no exception.

The Society for Music in Clare
Church (SMICC) is delighted to
announce that The Renaissance
Singers, London’s leading
amateur chamber choir, is coming
to Clare to perform this magnificent concert. They will be
covering 800 years of choral music in just nine works, each
one of which will represent the fifteenth year of their centu-
ry, starting with Gregorian Chants of 1215 and finishing with
a piece composed in 2015.
Tickets cost £15 and can be obtained from Clare Pharmacy

Clare Library: Magna Carta Jigsaw
Week beginning Monday 8th June
Clare Library Activities for All Ages
The Friends of Clare Library have specially commissioned a
Magna Carta Jigsaw that will be available for everyone in
Clare to come and complete from Saturday 6th June during
normal Library opening hours. The Library will also show a
programme of films during Festival week including The Lion
in Winter and Robin Hood. Thanks to all the team at Clare
Library for their fantastic support!
Tastes of 1215
Wednesday 10 June 2015, Clare Town Hall from 7.30 p.m.
An evening of music, drama, comedy and food with a pro-
gramme created and presented by local choirs, actors and
students. This will provide an interactive experience with the
mummers mingling with the audience, gossiping about
events of the time and perhaps teaching some dancing,
juggling etc.
During the interval, tasty morsels of food prepared from
13th century recipes will be served, accompanied by a com-
plimentary glass of mead. A bar with wine and Magna Carta
ale will also be available.
Tickets for ‘A Taste of 1215’ cost £10.00.
